Smart Tips & Tricks part 2 - 3G, GPRS, and MMS

3GAdThis post will show how to activate Smart's 3G, GPRS, and MMS services on your cellphone. These services are commonly used for internet browsing, media streaming, sending/receiving multimedia messages (MMS), and others.

To use these services, you need to accomplish two things:
1. Configure your cellphone with Smart's settings
2. Activate the service

I'll present two ways to do these. First is by using Smart's SIM Connect, second is by using keywords.

Method 1: SIM Connect

To use this method, you need the SIM Connect feature under SMART Menu. Please click here for my post on downloading SIM Connect on your phone (will open in a new window).

1. Configure your cellphone:

Go to SMART Menu > SIM Connect > MMS/GPRS/3G and select "Phone Config".

Key-in the model of your phone (Phone Type). For a list of available phone types, choose the "Phone Models" item in the MMS/GPRS/3G sub-menu. Examples of phone types: N6300 (Nokia 6300), SEK800i (Sony Ericsson K800i).

You will then receive a message asking you to save the settings. Click "Yes" and enter the passcode: 1234. Phone configuration done!

2. Activate the service:

Go to SMART Menu > SIM Connect > MMS/GPRS/3G and select "Activate".

Once you have received a confirmation message from Smart, you are all set for Smart's 3G, GPRS, and MMS services!

Method 2: Keywords

1. Configure your cellphone:

Key in "SET <Phone Model>" and send to 211. For a list of available phone types, send "SET LIST" to 211. Examples of phone types: N6300 (Nokia 6300), SEK800i (Sony Ericsson K800i).

2. Activate the service:

For MMS: Key in "MMS ON" and send to 333
For GPRS: Key in "GPRS ON" and send to 333
For 3G: Key in "3G ON" and send to 333

Once you have received a confirmation message from Smart, you are all set for Smart's 3G, GPRS, and MMS services!

---

NOTE: In some instances, doing the first step (configure your cellphone) would automatically activate the services (no need to do the 2nd step). You will know by the messages you receive from Smart.

Smart Tips & Tricks part 1 - SIM Connect

Being an employee of Smart Communications, family and friends have been constantly asking me so many questions about Smart's products and services. Thus, I decided to start a series of blog posts that would hopefully help you get the most out of your Smart Buddy, Talk N' Text and Gold subscriptions. First is my list is the ever-useful SIM Connect.

SIM Connect provides a very easy way of activating Smart's common products and services through a menu-based interface (instead of the keyword-based alternative). This is usually located under SMART Menu. However, the SIM Connect Menu is not installed/enabled by default. You need to download this by texting:

<GET><space><MENU> to 9888.

Once you have downloaded SIM Connect, you may access it by going to SMART Menu:

Using SIM Connect, you may avail of these services:

1. Voicemail Activation/Deactivation
2. MMS/GPRS/3G Activation/Phone Configuration/Phone Models
3. International Roaming Activation/Deactivation
4. Call & Text Card Status
5. Balance inquiry for SMART Bro Prepaid

I will provide a more detailed explanation on each services on my next posts.
